I went through a phase a few years ago where I was trying to find the recipe for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, I think I came pretty close with a few great recipes from my experiments, five years ago, but my appetite has not waned. I’m a sucker for a good cookie. And a good cookie will tempt me to stray from my diet, every time. When I saw Alton Brown post his recipe for ‘ The Chewy,’ my curiosity was piqued since his approach is quite scientific. This recipe, unlike the others I’ve tried, holds true to its promise. It is truly chewy, on the day it’s first baked, even the day after, and the day after that. It also looks almost like it came out of a bag or straight off the cookie sheet at your neighbourhood bakery. It doesn’t quite live up to the promise […]
Pumpkin chocolate chip cookie pie
I’m seriously kicking myself right now because I just tossed the last bit of pumpkin puree I had in my refrigerator because I have zero energy to cook or bake anything right now. And then I found this old blog post I’d been meaning to write up…. Indeed, ’tis the season for my ever-recurring bronchitis to return, hence the lack of energy, and unfortunately this coincides with pumpkin season too. Nonetheless, there is no reason for you not to make this recipe in my place. Not quite pumpkin pie, not quite chocolate chip cookie, just call it pumpkin chocolate chip cookie pie. Heck, once you take a bite you’ll forget about the whole name thing and you’ll ask for some ice cream. You can find the recipe here… And before you forget to do so, I’m going to suggest you Pin this, bookmark it, whatever you need to do to […]
Chocolate Chip Cookie Tarts
Do you love chocolate chip cookies? Do you love the buttery goodness of a pie? Do you want to whip up something quickly with what you have in your pantry? You’ll want to bookmark this post. I first read about Bakerella’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie, when a friend of mine told me she was making this recipe alongside pumpkin pie for their family’s Thanksgiving celebrations. I was intrigued, and I couldn’t resist searching for the ingredients in my pantry. I usually have a frozen pie crust or two in my freezer but when I realized I ran out, I thought I was out of luck. Fortunately, I found a box of frozen tart shells which I used instead. About half of the batter was left over but I just froze it until I was able to buy the frozen pie shells and make the pie version on another date. […]
David Lebovitz’s chocolate chip cookies
When my craving hit, it was sudden and strong. I wanted a chocolate chip cookie. But not just any run-of-the-mill chocolate chip cookie, a homemade one with dark chocolate chips that was slightly gooey and chewy on the inside. Some of my readers may or not remember my day job (at least when I am not on maternity leave) is as a journalist. And so I approached this self assignment much as I would approach any assignment. With lots and lots of research. Did you know that there are thousands of pages devoted to the art of making the chocolate chip cookie? Now, obviously some of this is subjective. Whereas you may prefer a crispy cookie with nuts, I prefer mine to be chewy, even slightly under-baked but with semi-sweet chocolate. There are those who swear by melted butter while others insist the butter must be firm but room […]
